Fifty Shades Delusional: Chapter Fifteen
Oct. 29th, 2012 10:51 pmHey, everyone! Sorry it's been so long, but things got kinda rough. To make up for it, I'll post a chapter every weekday this week. Let's get started, shall we? Warning: there's discussion of child abuse in this chapter.
We begin with Grey finding Ana crying on the floor. He hugs her and she cries into his shoulder for a while, and then he carries her to bed and they go to sleep. It's nice that Grey's actually acting like a decent person, rather than just flogging it out of her. Of course, there's also the solid fact that you don't get a cookie for being a decent person. It's what you should be doing anyway, for fuck's sake.
Ana wakes up at 3 AM and goes looking for painkillers and a drink. She gets both, and then starts thinking about Grey's proposal. She's still overwhelmed, and she wonders how she can move on from Grey's secret. She also wonders if she should talk to Dr Flynn, and if he could help her (um, doctor-patient confidentiality?). However, she hears a horrible scream and runs back to the bedroom, where Grey is having a nightmare. She manages to wake him up, and he thinks that since she left, then she must have left him permanently. Dude. Your logic-fu is not strong- though given that you've just told her about your Electra Complex and that it's 3 AM, I'll give you a pass there.
She reassures him that she hasn't gone anywhere, and then he convinces her to fuck him. Cue me skipping a few pages.
Ana asks him what his nightmare was about. His birth mother's pimp's angry, and he stubs out cigarettes on Grey's chest when he can't find an ashtray. His birth mother did nothing to stop her pimp. He also sometimes dreams of the days when she was dead, and of her pimp beating him up. Ouch. Ana asks him if that's why he doesn't like being touched. It's complicated, but basically, it comes from the fact that when he was young, nobody loved him (including himself) and the only touch he knew was harsh. Christ.
Grey tells her that he really wants her to marry him. Ana asks if she can see Flynn, and Grey's happy to oblige, but they need to go to sleep, since it's nearly four.
Slightly OT, is it just me or do writers have no sense of time? I keep running into situations where half an hour passes after a conversation that should have taken about two minutes. It's bad.
Ana wakes up late and realises that she's going to be late for work. She rushes through her morning routine and heads to work. She's late, and Jack is pretty pissed off, shouting at her. She and Grey have another email conversation, where he keeps telling her to use her BlackBerry in between cute chatter. Ana gets a call from Jose, about delivering the photos Grey bought. He'll be coming to Seattle, and probably crashing at Grey's place.
Jack gets even more pissed off at Ana, making her redo a letter with two mistakes in it (OK, I can see that, but there's no reason to be a prick about it) and making her get him more coffee. It's really not Ana's day. Ethan stops by to pick up the keys, and after answering Grey's emails with a phone call, Ana gets sent out to get Jack's lunch. Afterwards, she goes out to lunch herself, and asks him what she's done wrong. He says that he's not in the mood to discuss her misdemeanours, and she has no idea what she's talking about. During lunch, she thinks some more about Grey's offer, and eventually decides that she does want to say yes because she wants to give him the unconditional love he needs, but she wants to talk to Flynn first.
She doesn't actually get lunch, having spent her lunch time musing, and instead bullshits her way through the rest of the day. Mia calls and tells her that she's organising Grey's birthday party on the weekend. Ana's game.
At the end of the day, Jack approaches her, saying that it's a good time to discuss her misdemeanours despite the fact that he's supposed to be leaving in ten minutes. He asks her if she'll listen carefully to what he says, and the chapter ends.
That was Chapter Fifteen. Next time, the faecal matter hits the circular air rotation device.
