Fifty Shades Delusional: Chapter Four
Sep. 27th, 2012 12:59 amHey, everyone! Sorry that this one's late, but LJ wasn't working this morning and this is the only time I've got for this chapter. So, here we go! Warning- this chapter contains discussions of suicide attempts, mental illness and stalking.
Ana and Grey wake up and go eat. We learn a bit more about Ana- Kate can't cook, so Ana does most of the cooking. She pretty much taught herself- her mother was living with her third husband, who Ana didn't like, and Ray can't cook either. Ana's basically spent a lot of time looking after other people, and Christian says that he wants to take care of her. Aw. She's still pissed off at him for buying SIP, and he flat out tells her that should she leave and find another job, he'd buy that company too. That's... dude. Try not to revert to stalker mode, will you?
Anyway, they have sex and it involves vanilla ice cream. I'm basically skipping all the sex scenes because they're really boring and uninteresting. Afterwards, Grey invites her to his father's summer party the next day- it's a charity event. Ana briefly freaks out over having nothing to wear, and Christian says that he's still got the clothes he bought for her at his place, so there should be something she can wear there. Ana has a weird, scary dream where the strange woman from last chapter is her, and she's the ghost woman. Christian wakes her up and she tells him about the dream and the strange woman turning up, and he identifies her as Leila, Ex-Sub number 15 (and the person who put 'Toxic' on his iPod).
Christian makes some calls and Ana convinces him to tell her more, since, y'know, Leila somehow knows who she is, what her relationship with Grey is, where she works and how to find her. Christian admits that he has no idea how Leila found her, but the big problem is that when he was in Georgia, Leila turned up at his apartment unannounced and tried to kill herself by cutting her wrist. That was the situation that called Grey back to Seattle, if you'll recall. Problem is, Leila discharged herself from hospital before Grey could get there, which is... weird. (And Ana agrees with me- if she wanted back in his life, why leave?)
Anyway, it turns out that Leila's actually married (she got married after she and Christian broke up, just for the record) but she left her husband. I have to admit, I like the way the book handles this, because Leila's reason for all of this (which will turn up later) is actually understandable. She's not a psychotic ex-girlfriend played for humour, she's a sympathetic, understandable character. OK, she's freaking scary, but she's still sympathetic.
Grey convinces Ana to meet his personal trainer, since he wants her to actually be in shape for all their Kinky Fun Time activities, and then they have an argument over the Audi- Christian wants to give it to her as a gift, but Ana wants to buy it off him. After some more dickery (Grey basically forces her to accept the gift, Ana tears his check up in response and Grey has his assistant deposit the amount directly into her account), they kiss and make up (literally) and then they randomly decide to go out for breakfast. It's kinda weird- one minute they're fighting and having hate!makeouts, and then it's 'Hey, let's go have breakfast!' Way to pace things, James.
Anyway, he takes her to a salon for a haircut she wants. Ana initially thinks that it's the place that he brought all his subs to, and while that may be true, he actually brought her there because he owns it and several other salons like it. Anyway, everything's about to proceed when... dun dun dun! A strange blonde woman turns up who knows Grey... it's Mrs Robinson! (OK, Elena. I'll just call her that for simplicity.) I have to admit, that's actually a decent way to end the chapter. James, you are surprising me.
That was Chapter Four. Not bad, really.
