astra_auroraI just realised something. I have serious issues with "Born This Way". The song, not the album.
I only started realising it when I was writing a segment in my head involving one of my OC's, Nicholas, who is an exceedingly polite gay guy who wants to be a doctor and has the superpower of complete control over the human body. He also has serious problems with causing pain- he's not a sadist, but he never got the message that causing pain is a bad thing, and even though he keeps telling himself that it's wrong, he keeps forgetting.
Nick and I both have problems with "Born This Way" and every other fucking song Lady Gaga wrote that has 'be happy with yourself, because God intended you to be what you are' as a message for the same reason:
We both have serious issues, and we don't believe in her fucking God.
No, seriously, Gaga. I really hope you didn't intentionally mean to say 'Oh, BTW, everyone with mental problems, God wanted you like this'. Because as someone who suffered through serious depression and is still psychotic, fuck you.
I have body issues. I have mental health issues. And I'm not going to take heart in your song that pats me on the head and tells me not to worry because God wanted me to have depression and fucking body image problems. I just find it to be so fucking patronising. No God who ever gave a fuck about his worshippers would do that. And my God is nothing but caring.
This is YMMV, but I don't give a fuck. Being psychotic isn't something I can learn to be happy with. It's something I never wanted.
