Overkill much?
Sep. 16th, 2011 08:55 pmSo I'm on the bus today and as we go past a certain college, I see a banner draped from the roof reading 'Housing is a right, not a privilege', and a man leaning out of the window. That's alarming, because that college has been boarded up for years.
On my way home, parts of the footpath have been cordoned off and there's cops everywhere. Some are dressed in riot gear. There's a large number on the roof of the building nearest to the college.
When I get home, I do a little searching and find that seven students were in the college to protest about the lack of available housing here.
That's it. Seven students, unarmed, who enter a college to protest about housing. No rallies, no riots, no weapons. And yet there's dozens of cops, some in riot gear.
How is this a good use of police funds? How was this time well-spent? I agree that they shouldn't have been in the college, but for fuck's sake, people. Overkill much?
